Meet Caroline, Our House Manager
A conversation with Caroline, Edgar house Manager
Service of the highest quality is at the absolute heart of what we do at Daisy Joy, and responsible for so much of this, is Caroline, our House & Guest Manager at Edgar House. She spends her time ensuring that the property is always looking tip-top and is also our on-the-ground eyes and ears when guests are staying, making sure that every whim is catered to.
Caroline is also responsible for providing the fantastic concierge service for our guests, that we are so proud to provide at Edgar House. Through her local connections, we are proud to be able to offer our guests a cut above the rest!
Whether it be securing tickets for your favourite show, bookings for delicious dinners in the city, or a totally personalised evening at Edgar House with our talented private chefs, recommended sommelier and entertainment for the children, Caroline is the one to organise these spoiling ‘extras’ for your party. It is worth remembering that the sooner you can talk to us about your requirements, the greater chance that we have to secure your number one choice.
As the friendly face that greets guests on their arrival, we thought it made sense to give Caroline a full introduction! Here we find out more about her role at Edgar House, and some insights from a ‘behind the scenes’ perspective…
Our Chat to Caroline
How long have you been at Edgar House?
I started working at Edgar House in September 2021 – and it’s been a very exciting 14 months since!
Did you know the property before it was Edgar House? If so, what differences have you seen?
I knew it only a little, but I hadn’t been for some years. It is so different now, having undergone a lot of renovation and refurbishment work. The ground floor has been completely opened out from what was once three rooms, into the one lovely (and huge!) open-plan living space that we see today, it has had a complete interior make-over and it’s a daily feast for the eyes!
What’s your day-to-day role?
This varies from day to day. Along with the general running of the house, from continual relations with our agents, organising various staff and trades to keep on top of the general maintenance of the house, to meeting the needs of upcoming guests, such as booking private chefs and so many more of the home concierge services, we offer. There’s also a fair bit of admin, I’m constantly trying to keep on top of my inbox!
What’s your favourite part of the role?
I aim to meet each and every one of our guests and seeing and hearing the surprise when they enter each and every room is such a joy, it is lovely seeing people so happy.
What do you love most about Edgar House?
It’s location and the open space. Sitting in the living area with the garden door open and listening to the weir of the River Dee below on a sunny day is uniquely special – there aren’t many properties that have ancient city walls, and a river in such close proximity.
What is your favourite room at Edgar House? And why?
I get asked this a lot by guests, who are always keen to know which bedroom is the best, however, it is impossible to answer! Each and every bedroom is of large proportions and decorated individually, with acute attention to detail.
The cinema room is a huge favourite with our guests – lots of popcorn movie evenings are had here, but for me, it has to be the living area; the space is so elegantly designed with contemporary furnishings and I think it is the ‘wow’ factor of the house.
What are your ambitions for Edgar House?
To keep providing a fabulous luxury holiday home for all our guests and making sure that every party has a great stay, creating memories with their family or friends.
Do you have any stand out stories/experiences from your time at Edgar House to date?
A guest kindly sent me a video after their stay, showing her and her extended family all singing Sweet Caroline around the dining room table on New Year’s Eve. They were all having such a fabulous time laughing and singing, and it was so lovely of her to share that special family moment, you can really feel like you are part of making memories for the guests.
Any funny/entertaining anecdotes to tell?!
We had a group of ladies staying who were all in their 40s, they were so thrilled with their accommodation when I showed them around the property that I don’t think any of them heard a single word I said – it was like showing a group of uncontrollable six-year olds! They were so overjoyed and taken by surprise by the house, that they were screaming and running around in wild excitement! It was a very entertaining afternoon!
Have you had any celebrities staying at Edgar House?
We have had ‘celebs’ staying but, regardless of this, we treat all our guests as VIPs – everyone gets special treatment at Edgar House.
Which three celebrities/public figures, dead or alive, would you choose to have dinner with, and why?
Three is just not enough! There are so many well-known people that I’d love to have dinner with and find more about their lives. If I had to narrow down, I would say the following:
Helen Keller because I am in complete awe of what she achieved with such disabilities. Josephine Baker because of her inspiring life story in a time where it was difficult achieving a career as a woman, let alone a black woman – from a dancer, to a spy and everything in between. Her sense of humour and fun would be wonderful to be around, because you have to have laugher at a dinner! (So if she couldn’t come I’d rope in Peter Kay, as a substitute!) And Nancy Wake – because don’t we all want to know the secrets of a spy and she was by far the best secret agent!
Thank you to Caroline for taking the time to talk to us in detail about what goes into the daily running of Edgar House and the luxury experiences that go with it, we are delighted to share these insights, and hope that it illustrates the wide ranging ‘extras’ that can be provided when you come and stay with us.
