River Dee Cruises. On the river just in front of Edgar House, Chester Boats run all year long (apart from in January and part of February for their annual big clean). If you fancy chartering your very own boat they have plenty of options to create magical memories onboard your very own, exclusively hired vessel.

Paddle Boarding & Kayaking. If you fancy kayaking or paddle boarding but don’t quite know where to start, then book a tour or an experience with Dee River Kayaking. For the more adventurous and experienced kayakers they can whisk you off to for a proper white-water experience in the North Wales rapids.

The Curious Guide. The Curious Guide, Chris Rowland, a Green Badge guide, offers walking tours of the city of Chester.  Chris is a history graduate with links to Chester for over 25 years. He is passionate about telling the story of the city in the actual places where its inhabitants lived, worked, loved and worshipped over its 2000 year history. Telephone: 07803 218239.

The Riverfront & Meadow Walks. It is as if we have our very own Chester Riviera, right in front of Edgar House! A beautiful stretch of river promenade and, if you cross the pedestrian suspension bridge, wonderful riverside country walks along the Meadows.

Treasure Hunt Chester. Hunt for clues and follow treasure maps on a gorgeous route around the city. Climb the Roman walls, admire the stunning cathedral, explore the amphitheatre and wander by the riverside. Spot things you’d never notice, like the medieval mystery set into the wall of St John’s ruins.

Chester Medieval Tour. Medieval soldiers in authentic period uniform meet and greet visitors in the city’s four main streets to share the incredible story of Chester’s Rows. This exciting and unique tour will focus on medieval Chester in the year of 1403.

The Deva Roman Discovery Centre. Discover more than just Romans in DEVA! You can expect Roman soldiers and a self-guided tour, but you can also experience plenty of hands-on activities, interactive displays, activities and light and sound projections designed to recreate the past and explain history as you have never seen it before by bringing shadows to life! 1-2, off Pierpoint Ln, Bridge St, Chester CH1 1NL. Chester Ghost Tours take you through ancient thoroughfares and the ‘wicked old Rows’, to locations sometimes off the beaten track with eerie backdrops, and tell you scary stories about ‘ghosties and ghoulies, and things that go bump in the night’.

Manley Aqua Park, Adventure Trail & Sailing. The Adventure Trail is an obstacle course suitable for all ages. The Aquapark is a wet, wild and fun activity for friends or family. Edgar House makes a perfect base for a golfing holiday.

The Royal Liverpool Golf Club in Hoylake, home of the 151st Open Championship. While its appearance may fool you, the links make the trickiest demands of players’ shot selection, distance control and accuracy.

Royal Birkdale frequently appears at the top of English golf course rankings, and it’s easy to see why. From the doglegged first tee shot, through to the finish in front of the iconic Art Deco clubhouse, there are few rounds that you’ll remember quite as well as those played at Birkdale.

Royal Lytham has a daunting par 3 first hole, followed by several testing par 4’s ensures you’re on your game from the start. Few courses can be so rewarding.

Formby Golf Club has hosted some of the biggest amateur tournaments in the game but keeps most of its play for members, guests, and visitors, meaning that it might not have the international name recognition of others. However, you’d be foolish to overlook it when putting together a golf trip to the Northwest.

Wallasey Golf Club is another course that asks some serious tests of the golfer. It does this while also serving up some of the best views on the coastline, notably from the iconic 4th tee box.

Caldy Golf Club is another past qualifying course for The Open and enjoys great views of the Dee estuary.

Carden Park hotel offers two excellent championship golf courses.

Chester Racecourse is the oldest racecourse still in operation in the world! During the nineteenth century, Chester races attracted: “The most perfect mix of society from all over the British Isles”. Storyhouse is Chester’s superb theatre, cinema, library and so much more. A packed programme of performances, shows, talks and comedy gigs. Chester Cathedral. Book on to one of the Tower Tours & Ground Floor Tours and explore the magnificent building which is a national treasure within the heart of Chester. Grosvenor Museum is a small museum that tells the stories of Cheshire from pre-history to the 20th century. The Roman galleries explore Roman life and death in the Roman fortress of Deva. Nine room sets illustrate changing fashions in domestic interiors from the 17th century to the 1920s. The paintings and sculpture in the Art Gallery span half a millennium of art in Cheshire. Cheshire Military Museum tells the story of the Cheshire Soldiers from the 17th Century right through to the present day. Follow the exploits of the Regiments of Cheshire and their travels across the world during many great battles.
